I was born in Holland, Michigan and grew up in a small art community in West Michigan. Interested in art since at a very young age, I initially drew comic book heroes and later studying commercial art in high school. Moving to Hawaii in 1987 I became immersed in the melting pot of cultures that make up the Hawaiian Islands. After studying art at the University of Hawaii, and traveling the world, I moved to Japan and became interested in Japanese Prints. After 3 years of studying art in Japan I moved back to Hawaii to settle down with my family and continuing to study and practice art.

Living in Hawaii you are immersed in the many different cultures of the world teaching one to learn and live with one another. The unique locale of Hawaii and the isolation of an island chain places these forces firmly between east and west. Whether it's learning Hula, buying Kim-Chee at Palama Market or crusin' at "Bowls" day-today life blends together and that's I what I try to capture in my art; the every day essence of living in Hawaii.
